Experimental Description D. P., a 20-year-old female student (Fig. 2) suffering from chronic tonsillitis,dwas scheduled for tonsillectomy on August 25, 1972, in the South Bay CommunityHospital in Redondo Beach, California.

Description At 7:55 a.m. acupuncture anesthesia was administered by one of us (J. C.) with one needle in the Ho-Ku point of each hand, electronically motivated (Electronic Pulsating Stimulator, type 626-1, made in the People's Republic of China) and one needle in the NeiTing point of each foot, manipulated by hand. After about 20 minutes of manipulation of the needles, electronically and manually, at which time the patient felt some "swelling" sensation, about 5 c.c. of normal saline was injected in each tonsillar area for hemostasis.
